Initially developed as a community to service lumbering and mining, the town is now the center of a rapidly growing area making it your perfect base camp for a multitude of outdoor recreation and day trips to area points of interest. In the winter months, enjoy activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing in the surrounding wilderness or just up the road is beautiful Wolf Creek Ski Area which boasts, "The most snow in Colorado." During the warmer months, a multitude of trails and scenic nature invite locals and tourists alike outdoors to enjoy hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing and photo taking.
